PRZEMYSŁAW DĄBROWSKI
A politicized city
patronage
The author’s main objective was to reconstruct the activities of Polish groups in Vilnius in the interwar period, as well as to show the solutions proposed by their representatives concerning the political system of the Polish state. This need was all the more urgent because, after Warsaw, the capital of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania was undoubtedly an extremely powerful and resilient political center where various ideological currents clashed. In the city on the Neris River there were branches of most of the central groups, except of course for the conservatives and democrats who formed an indigenous community. Therefore, it became necessary to present the groups on the political scene in Vilnius, including the characterization of the press published at that time – the most important source in the reconstruction of the political thought of Polish groups in Vilnius.
