DARIUSZ SZPOPER
Between the Tsarism and the Dream of the Republic of Poland
patronage
In his book, Dariusz Szpoper reconstructs the political concepts and initiatives undertaken by Polish conservatives in the period of the so-called ‘post-Soviet thaw’, which preceded the outbreak of the January Uprising. The pages of the book reveal a clear picture of the fears and concerns of the nobility, which resulted from the realization that the process of peasant reforms initiated by the Russian authorities would inevitably lead to profound social and economic changes that would destroy the existing order based on serfdom and peasant serfdom.
