The book is the first presentation of the history of the oldest city of Elbląg, comprehensively covering such important issues as the process of location, the formation of urban space, economy, spiritual culture, and the “Teutonic problem”.
The author has also managed not to fall into excessive “materialism” when discussing mobile sources and has rightly treated them mainly as a means to an end, rather than an end in itself. […]
The author managed to present a coherent picture of the city. A great advantage is the inclusion of a considerable amount of foreign literature, which, given the “openness” of the Hanseatic city, is of considerable value.
